Description

Déchirer is a series of large format through-body porcelain tiles designed by Patricia Urquiola. Déchirer is notable for its patterns and textures made possible through the technology used in production. The series won the 2009 Best of NeoCon Silver Award in the Hard Surface category. It also won the Elle Deco International Design Awards (EDIDA) in 2009 in the wall coverings category.

The collection explores the expressive potential of ceramics, incorporating patterns and colors that are inspired by the nature and the consistency of concrete.

Déchirer is available in four tile sizes and a unique 48"x48" hexagon shape.
Tiles are available in five colors - bianco, nero, grigio, ecrù and piombo - and in two textures - décor and neutral.
The tiles are through-body and press-finished using CONTINUA technology.
Tiles are perfectly rectified.

About Patricia Urquiola

Patricia Urquiola's professional career began in Italy, influenced by figures such as Bruno Munari, the intellectual founding father of the Milan school. Patricia considers herself a Spaniard, or rather an Asturian of Basque descent. Urquiola trained at the Polytechnic Universities of Madrid and Milan. In Milan she worked with Vico Magistretti and Achille Castiglioni before opening her own studio there in 2001. She alternates product design projects for major international companies - from Alessi to B&B Italia, Moroso, De Padova, Rosenthal and Axor, to mention but a few - with architecture projects for private homes, hotels and showrooms. Patricia's work has earned her numerous international awards: the Wallpaper Design Awards in 2006, Elle Decoration International Design Award, and Designer of the Year for the first time in 2003 and several times in the following years, as in 2009 with Mutina Déchirer collection. Her creations, including Déchirer, have been selected for ADI Design Index and The International Design Yearbook.

Color + Finishes

Déchirer is available in five solid colors (Bianco, Ecrù, Grigio, Piombo and Nero). Each color is offered in a neutral and décor finish.

Décor tiles are press-finished using the CONTINUA technology.

Sizes

Standard (and actual) tile sizes are 24"x24" (23.6"x23.6"), 24"x48" (23.6"x47.2") and 48"x48" (47.2x47.2"). Each size is offered in both the neutral and décor finish. A 48"x48" (47.2"x47.2") hexagon tile is also available in the décor finish. All tiles have a thickness of 12mm, and are rectified allowing for thin 1/16" grout joints.

Déchirer is a non-stock item.

Applications

Déchirer is suitable for interior and exterior walls, as well as interior residential and heavy-traffic commercial floors.

Installation + Maintenance

The substrate must be flat, stable, solid, free of cracks, smooth, dry and clean. Apply tiles with thinset adhesive, following the recommendations from manufacturers such as Laticrete and Mapei, depending on conditions. Recommended grout width is 1/16" or wider. Clean with a neutral detergent when needed.
