Forest Salvage Wood

Description

Our forest salvage wood is salvaged from blighted butternut or culled sugar maple trees, offering a distinct aesthetic from traditional to contemporary.

Products

Materials are produced to order. Please allow 8 weeks for delivery. Minimum order requirement is 50 square feet. The collection includes:

Charred Wood
This material emulates an ancient Japanese wood finishing technique that preserves wood by charring it.  The process involves charring and sculpting the wood, and finishing it with a natural oil or clear urethane. Suitable for walls and ceiling paneling applications.

Spalted Maple
Spalted Maple is harvested from some of Vermont's oldest maple sugar orchards. Each Spring, maple sugar makers drill holes in the trees to gather sap. Over time, these trees decline in sap production and are culled to make room for new growth in the forest. Typically, these 100+ year old trees are considered unusable in the hardwood lumber industry, due to the tap holes. The spalted effect is produced using bio-mimicry to accelerate the aging process over a period of 18 months. Logs are then processed to reveal the black spalt patterns. Random streaking patterns as well as a range of colors are all part of the aesthetic of this gorgeous wood.

Tapped Maple
Tapped Maple Sugar Wood is harvested from some of Vermont's oldest maple sugar orchards. Each Spring, maple sugar makers drill holes in the trees to gather sap. Over time, these trees decline in sap production and are culled to make room for new growth in the forest. Typically, these 100+ year old trees are considered unusable in the hardwood lumber industry, due to the tap holes. By celebrating the distinct "tap streaks" found across the surface of the wood and by filling the tap holes with colored resin, Tapped Maple offers clients a refreshing alternative to traditional wood products.

Installation + Maintenance

The jobsite should be enclosed and climate-controlled before wood flooring is delivered or installed. In addition, other trades working on the jobsite can damage the wood flooring installation, so many problems can be minimized by limiting the amount of traffic at the jobsite after the wood flooring is installed. Potential problems at a jobsite should be addressed before the wood arrives and the installation begins.
