Geotech

Geotech is a through body porcelain tile with ink-jet technology. The inspiration comes from Madeira, an island off the coast of Africa. Formed by volcanic activity, one of the island’s notable features is a special stone that has the appearance of fossilized wood. Geotech draws upon the markings that are typically found in natural stone.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Geotech is a series of through body porcelain tiles with ink-jet technology. The inspiration for the series comes from Madeira, an island off the coast of Africa. Formed by volcanic activity, one of the island's notable features is a special stone that has the appearance of fossilized wood. The series combines the markings that are typically found in natural stone, with unique color combinations. Geotech meets the requirements set by the LEED building rating system and may be used to earn the following LEED Credits: MR 4.1 and 4.2, EQ 4, SS 7 and EA 1. In general, mosaics can be difficult to maintain in flooring applications with heavier traffic, particularly due to the amount of grout required. Textured materials are more difficult to maintain than honed or polished. Use a sealer to minimize staining. See the Applications Guide PDF for alternatives.

  • Kitchen Countertops: No
  • Other Countertops: No
  • Wet areas: Yes
  • Traffic: Heavy Commercial

Care + Maintenance

  • Pre-Grouting Protection: Not Applicable
  • Initial Cleaning: Deterdek/Fila CR10
  • Protection Natural Effect: Not Applicable
  • Protection Color Enhancing: Not Applicable
  • Standard Maintenance: Fila Cleaner
  • Special Maintenance: Fila PS/87
ABRASION RESISTANCE

High

This material has relatively high abrasion resistance. It rates as a 7 or higher on the Mohs scale. Quartzite or granite typically fall into this range. This material is less likely to scratch than marble, limestone, onyx, slate, etc.

ABSORPTION

Low

This material is virtually non-porous. No sealer is required and it is less likely to stain.

ACID SENSITIVITY

Minimal

This material is minimally sensitive to acids. It will not acid etch or lose its surface sheen when exposed to acidic liquids such as lemons or tomatoes.

FREEZE-THAW

All Exteriors

Due to this material's Minimal or Moderate Absorption rating, its Abrasion Resistance rating, color fastness and tensile strength, this material is suitable for all exterior applications where freeze-thaw cycles are a concern. Use TCNA standards for setting in exteriors and consult an engineer regarding fastening systems and tensile strength required for your project.
