Segments

Segments is a series of colored body, non-rectified porcelain wall tile designed by Guglielmo Poletti.

These 3-dimensional designs boast as a pattern of minimalist character that becomes refined decor, thanks to its many possible configurations and the variations in the product itself. Each style can be used individually or in combination with others in the collection. Segment is available in earthy, neutral colors in the following styles:

Segments Small, where a simple line whose many repetitions add up to strong visual impact. The graphic element, with its strong tactile suggestions, wraps a space in elegance; its stark formality evokes unexpected sensations.

Segments Small Plus, where the lines of Segments Small multiply.

Segments Large, where the lines extend in independent sections.

Tiles can be rotated upon installation or paired with other styles in the collection to create a variety of different patterns.

About Guglielmo Poletti

Early in his career, Italian designer Guglielmo Poletti studied in Milan, then later earned an MA in Contextual Design from the Design Academy of Eindhoven, graduating in June 2016. Since the very beginning Poletti developed a simple yet personal language. His practice is deeply rooted in a hands-on investigation of materials and their limits, in relation to concepts of balance and fragility. His simple structures and elemental constructions stand as metaphors of defeated complexity, built around the manipulation of unconventional details. Subtle gestures allow him to achieve a deeper impact, by deconstructing an image and then restoring it with the smallest of operations. His approach is based on a ‘thinking by doing’ philosophy, which he combines with a good deal of intuition, to produce extremely coherent results. Poletti’s work has been shown in several international exhibitions, such as Dutch Design Week, Milan Design Week and PAD London Fair with Galleria Rossana Orlandi, and Operæ PHM | Piemonte Handmade with SEEDS London Gallery. In January 2018 he was one of the six young designers who were named winners of the Italian ‘Rising Talent Awards’ at MAISON&OBJET in Paris.

ABRASION RESISTANCE

High

This material has relatively high abrasion resistance. It rates as a 7 or higher on the Mohs scale. Quartzite or granite typically fall into this range. This material is less likely to scratch than marble, limestone, onyx, slate, etc.

ABSORPTION

Low

This material is virtually non-porous. No sealer is required and it is less likely to stain.

ACID SENSITIVITY

Minimal

This material is minimally sensitive to acids. It will not acid etch or lose its surface sheen when exposed to acidic liquids such as lemons or tomatoes.

FREEZE-THAW

All Exteriors

Due to this material's Minimal or Moderate Absorption rating, its Abrasion Resistance rating, color fastness and tensile strength, this material is suitable for all exterior applications where freeze-thaw cycles are a concern. Use TCNA standards for setting in exteriors and consult an engineer regarding fastening systems and tensile strength required for your project.
