IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Pietra D'Avola is part of the Lithoverde collection, a series of natural stone comprised of 99% post-industrial recycled material. Pietra D'Avola meets the requirements set by the LEED building rating system and may be used to earn LEED MR Credits 4.1 and 4.2. As part of the production process, blocks of Pietra D'Avola are infused with a soy-based poly-amid binder to create a tight bond. Residue from the binder may be visible on the face of the material. This is inherent in the material. See the Applications Guide PDF for alternatives.

ABRASION RESISTANCE

Low

This material has low abrasion resistance. It rates as a 1-3 on the Mohs scale. Light scratching will occur with exposure to sand and other abrasives. The finish will patina or dull over time as a result of this scratching. Always use a cutting board for countertop applications and walk-off mats at entrances in flooring applications.

ABSORPTION

Moderate

This material has a low to moderate absorption rate. Always seal this material prior to use. To reduce the appearance of stains, always wipe up spills immediately. Oil and highly-pigmented liquids can penetrate and stain the stone and may need poultice to remove the stain.

ACID SENSITIVITY

High

This material is highly sensitive to acids. Acid etching will be highly visible on this material when exposed to acidic foods such as lemons or tomatoes. Do not use this material on kitchen countertop applications where acid etching is a concern. If acid etching is a concern, select a minimally sensitive material.

FREEZE-THAW

Not Recommended

Due to known material weakness or because this material has not been tested, this material is not approved for use in exterior applications.

Pietra D’Avola – Lithoverde

Finish: Honed
Material: Limestone
Collection: Lithoverde

Lithoverde is the only natural stone in the world comprised of 99% post-industrial recycled material. British architect, John Pawson, designed the House of Stone Exhibit for the Milan Design Show. It has been awarded “The Best Installation of the Year,” and is now permanently installed at Milan’s Triennale Design Museum. Lithoverde may contribute to LEED MR 4 (Materials and Resources, Recycled Content) and ID (Innovation in Design). Lithoverde is also in the process of being certified by SCS (Scientific Certification Systems).

The process by which this product is developed is revolutionary:

Stone scraps are drylayed in layers to form a block.

The block is then infused with a soy-based poly-amid binder to create a tight bond.

The block can then be handled like any other block of stone; it can be sawn into slabs or tiles, or carved for multi-dimensional designs such as sinks, columns and other structures.
